Bath
From Salisbury Plain the drive continues to Bath, a city built almost entirely in honey-coloured Georgian stone and, like Stonehenge, a World Heritage Site in its own right. The Roman Baths are the reason many people come: fed by Britain's only natural hot springs, they are among the best-preserved Roman remains in Britain. A short walk away, the Royal Crescent and the Circus show Georgian town planning at its most confident, and Bath Abbey, Pulteney Bridge and the independent shops of the centre fill an afternoon comfortably.
